New Zealand - Hell's Ass Connection - L : 25m - H : 10m

If you're not already there, take a flight to New Zealand South Island first!
From Wanaka, drive to Glendhu Bay then to Hospital Flat through Aspiring Road. Stop at the main car park in Hospital Flat, second one car on the left.
Then walk 350m along the fence line until you reach the access track to Tombstone - you cannot decently miss the monumental rock standing on the hill as a tomb stone.

The line :
Where ?
Between the top of Tombstone and the Engine Block. The Engine is situated a few 30m past Tombstone on the same track.

Anchors :
Top of Tombstone - you need to climb it, grade 17 to 24 (French 5c to 7a) Use the existing top anchors of Lunge Starter (24), Fingers Columbian (17) and Rusty Pins (18)
On Engine Side, use the top anchors of Radiator (13) and the route on the right (no name, top rope problem) we add 2 new 10mm bolts which need hangers and nuts.

Linking :
Easy, throw the webbing down Tombstone and drive it to Engine from the path.

Rigging :
Pulley and Multiplier system on the Engine side. Use one existing anchors and the two 10mm for the webbing, back-up on existing anchor. Common back-up rounding a further rock.
On Tombstone side, you can use the existing anchors and equalize. Be aware to bring extra slings, some of the anchors are far one to another. Same for the back-up.

Remarks :
Uneven line!! Tombstone is almost one meter lower than the Engine so… It's also a really low highline but it works.
Nonetheless, Tombstone is a figure of Wanaka Rock Climbing and it's a funny stuff to highline it! Kinda symbol.

Si vous n'y êtes pas encore, prenez un vol pour l'île Sud de la Nouvelle-Zélande! Allez directement à Wanaka. Depuis Wanaka,
Depuis Wanaka, roulez vers Glendhu Bay puis Hospital Flat en suivant la Aspiring Road. Stop au parking principal de Hospital Flat, second sur la gauche.
Puis marchez 350m le long de la barrière jusqu'à ce que vous atteignez le sentier d'accès à Tombstone - vous ne pouvez décemment pas rater le rocher monumental qui trône sur la colline comme une pierre tombale.

La ligne:
Où?
Entre tombstone et Engine Block. Engine est situé à quelques 30m plus loin de Tombstone sur le même chemin.

Qui - Quand ?

Ancrages :
Au sommet de Tombstone - il vous faudra y grimper, du 5c au 7a, au choix. Utilisez les ancrages du sommet des voies Lunge Starter (7a), Fingers Columbian (5c) and Rusty Pins (6a)
Côté Engine Block, utilisez les ancrages du sommet de Radiator (4b) et ceux à droite de de derniers (le sommet des voies d'entrainement en moule), nousa vons ajouté deux points de 10mm. Prévoyez donc 2 plaquettes et les boulons de 10mm.

Passage de la ligne :
Facile, lancez la ligne depuis Tombstone et emmenez-la jusqu'à Engine Block par le sentier.

Tension :
Doubles poulies et moufflage sont du côté Engine. Utilisez un des point de Radiator et deux point de 10mm pour la sangle et un point de la voie de droite pur le back-up. Back-up commun sur un rocher en retrait.
Sur Tombstone, vous pouvez utiliser les ancrages des voies d'escalade et égaliser le tout. Pensez à prendre quelques spansets en rab, certains points sont assez éloignés. Idem pour le back-up.

Remarques :
Slack en pente!! Tombstone est presque un mètre plus bas qu'Engine Block, alors… C'est aussi certainement une des highline les plus basses que j'ai vu, mais ça marche!
Et, comme Tombstone est en quelque sorte l'emblème du Wnanaka rock Climbing, c'est plutôt marrant d'y poser un slack. Un symbole quoi!
